About Me

Life.

I was born in Doncaster, U.K in 1965. My father was a Lancastrian, my Mother from Devon. I have three siblings, two sisters and a brother. As children we moved around the Midlands and south Yorkshire as my father searched for work so when people ask me where I'm from I tend to say 'Midlands-ish'.

I left school as soon as I could and went to art college for two years in Mansfield followed by three years in Bradford. Both courses were in General Art and Design.

I lived in London for 8 years from 1986 and then moved to The New Forest on the south coast of England in 1994. I live and work in the New Forest today.

I  am married to Louise, she is a senior nurse at Southampton General Hospital. We have been a couple since 1985. We have no children.

Work.

Shortly after completing my degree at Bradford College of Art I moved to London.

After a few years of intensive painting I started to make a mark in the art world including winning 1st and 3rd prizes in the BP Portrait award. I undertook numerous solo exhibitions and was fortunate to be selected to participate in some flagship exhibitions like 'Painting the Century, 100 portrait masterpieces' at the NPG.

I undertake private portrait commissions and have works in the collection at the National Portrait Gallery and Jersey Museum.

For solo exhibitions and art fairs, I am proud to be represented by Beaux Arts in London.

I have been painting full time now for well over thirty years. I wrote a few short essays about my life and career for the Reality show at the Sainsbury centre in 2014 which can be found here on the Blog.

Play.

I spend most of my spare time Cycling with the New Forest Cycling club, running or at the gym.

Although I can't claim to be a particularly talented athlete I work hard at my sports and in 2018 qualified and competed for Team GB at the UCI Amateur World cycling championships in Varese Italy.

I love to travel, treck in wilderness areas and observe wildlife. I have been a vegetarian for over 30 years and am a keen cook.
